David

David

I am currently studying David: Seeking a Heart like His by Beth Moore. Are there times in your life when you learn a valuable lesson and you want to shout it out to others around you? Kinda like doing good on a test and passing your notes back to someone else so they can benefit from what you learned. Well this is one of those times for me. This study has got me thinking of some things and I want to pass my notes back to you!!

Evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life: (see if any apply to you)
1. One of the most important jobs of the Holy Spirit is to convict of sin. (John 16:8)
Lots of time we measure sin as in comparison to others. Our standard of measuring should be the holiness of God. Who are you measuring up against?  "The Holy Spirit uses the individual's conscience as the striking ground for conviction. Does God ever prick your conscience?
2. Conviction from the Holy Spirit brings on change of behavior
If we do not listen to the Holy Spirits conviction and change our behavior we will usually be uneasy and fight conviction. "David responds to his deliema with Saul with an immediate change in behavior"(1 Samuel 24:5-6)...we should do the same.
3. The Holy Spirit helps us to exercise great restraint
Have you ever had the chance to get revenge on someone who has hurt/ wronged you or someone you know. Did you show great restraint? Have you ever been given such a good/ perfect opportunity and shown restraint?  Let me just say it is one of the hardest things you can do...apart from the Holy Spirit. But the blessing is unimaginable.  How do I know this?.. I have lived it.. and it also tells us this in God's word 1 Peter 3:9 says 'Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.'
4. Respect God.. the Holy Spirit influences you to remember that the cause of God is way more important then you.
If you find yourself in such a situation as betrayal or other hurts.. it might help you to ask.. What can I gain from this? What can God's will be thru this?? If I back down, however painful it may be , and trust in Him.... What might He do?
Ecclesiastes 3:17 reminds us that we will all have to answer for our own actions.

So , I dont know if this has helped you in anyway today. But i do know if this is foreign to you or you do not feel like their is any influence of the Holy Spirit in your life.... then maybe you need to do some reflecting on what God is trying to say to you.
In loving God and loving others there is great joy & blessing that comes. It is not easy to always show love to others, but we are called to forgive, we are called to love. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Its His job :)
